ABOUT ME
My name is Larry D. Voorhees. I received my Bachelor of Education and Master
of Arts Degrees from Eastern Illinois University. My career as a choral music
director in the Illinois public schools began in 1965 and spanned thirty-four
years. I retired from high school teaching in 1999.

I also enjoy camping and canoeing having made several trips to
the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in northern Minnesota. Also, I have been an
active Hunter Education Instructor for the Illinois Department of Natural
Resources for thirteen years. I have a lovely wife and two grown children.
I have been an avid pipe smoker since my college days. My
first pipe was a Kaywoodie White Briar billiard that was a Christmas gift from
my parents. Since my father was a pipe and cigar smoker, I guess they thought
that if I was going to smoke, best it be a pipe! Through the years, I
gathered a variety of pipes, mostly Kaywoodies, along with some GBDs. Today my
collection has expanded to over four-hundred pipes. Dunhill, Charatan, GBD, Kaywoodie,
Ashton are a few of the names that I now own.
Since retirement, I have been associated part time with Moore’s
Tobacco Shop located in Danville, IL. It is there that I have gained knowledge
about pipes. Knowledge that has furthered my interest in pipe collecting, and
pipe restoration.
I hope you will enjoy looking at my
collection.
